Scrabble Card

Here's another great idea that came from my sister.  She is a big scrabble fan and plays on pogo, so don't ever try to challenge one of her words!  Her neighbors have learned that real quick *LOL*

She asked me to make her a card after she whooped the neighbors in scrabble at a party!  Got this off to her in the mail, but with the slow service we get from the P.O., she won't get it until Tuesday (and that's only if she's lucky).

Here's her card...... no cricut or svg files for this one.

That's my final blog entry for 2011.
Hope you all have a Happy New Year!

Members only Hanging heart

I saw these hearts last year, but I don't remember where.  I tried out just one edge design, but you could jazz it up with other designs.

Woven Heart baskets

Remember those woven heart baskets that have been around for years?  I found some great sites with tons of new woven hearts HERE and HERE.  You might want to google some instructions on how to weave  so it forms a basket before you try these.  I thought I remembered how to do it.... NOT

I tried to convert  a few into svgs and here's the result.  Guess you really need to pay attention to the picture or you end up with "heart failure" like this:

I thought the white pieces needed to be glued to the red before weaving, but it was so thick, the paper was crinkling toward the end of the weaving..... and this didn't look like the picture.

Here is how it was supposed to look.  You just weave the red parts together, then do the white ones and glue them on the outside of the basket.... duh!  much better.

From the second site I tried this one..... had trouble figuring this out too.  And this one you do put the 2 pieces together before weaving, so it it thick and gets a little snug.  I ended up trimming the sides of the last 2 legs to get it together.  I still managed to tear it a little by the flower.

Members only: Year of the Dragon 2012

Chinese New Year is just around the corner (January 23rd).  To help celebrate, my sister (who else?)  requested some cards to send to friends to celebrate *LOL*  I got these mailed out to her in plenty of time to send to their friends.

This is my favorite one.  I love the font on the inside.  It's a free font called Chow Fun .

The free download is at DaFont here.

Here is another one I made too:

Rainbow Card

This is another special card I made for my sister.  I'm her biggest supplier of greeting cards. *LOL*  She has a running list of card ideas for me to create.

I found this verse online, and it was a perfect fit for this card.
A friend is like a rainbow
They brighten your life
when you've been through a storm.

Members only Tree arch Christmas pop up

I saw this awesome Christmas tree pop up card at  Extreme Cards    Go there for the file and all the instructions to assemble it.  I had to make one right away, and it really  turned out great.  There's been this other idea I've had in the back of my mind for awhile, so I got busy in Inkscape and made my own type of pop up.  It came out great on the first cut.  Usually, there are more test cuts to get it right.  I can see using it for other holidays too, just by changing out the center image.  So without any further ado........... here's my card:

Pop out tree card

I made this pop out tree card, but when I closed it, the tree parts were sticking in the cutout areas, so I edged the branches with stickles and that seems to fix the problem.  Trying to get a good picture of it was another story.

Tree box

I altered a free template that I found on the web so it wouldn't waste so much paper.  If you cut the file twice, it makes 2 trees.   There is a square template to use for the fold lines on the bottom (glue one over the other crosswise), and a triangle template for the decorative papers to add on each side.  No score lines on the svg, because it's self explanatory (point of the tree to the corner of the square).  I glued 2 of the branches to each other on 2 of the sides and left the other 2 free for opening the box.  Punch holes in the front and back tree to run a string through for closing the box and as a hanger.  Filled them with my favorite Hershey kisses.

Hands

I saw this cute card at Ramblings of a Texas Craft Room and knew I had to make one for my sister.  I didn't save a still picture of mine, but here is a short video of how it opens.  I used a ring to close the card.  It was like mailing a small package, so I think I will use paper for the accordion fold next time (instead of cardstock)

Here's my svg for this card

Hang in there

This is a very special card I made for my brother in law who is going through some very stressful times right now (taking care of my sister).  We just wanted to show him that he has our support.
